Stellar Sentries
Night at the Very Large Array in New Mexico. This place is simply magical at night. I’d always been intrigued by this place and I’d wanted to visit it since I can remember. I finally got my chance and I took it. These towers are like nimble giants, constantly twitching and positioning and working tirelessly [...]

Alpine Twister
This was sort of an after thought image as I’d stopped to take a rest after eating a corny dog the size of my forearm at the Texas State Fair. As I was standing next to this ride, I really liked the way this framed up and the colors and feel was very soothing.

Night Horse
A familiar site in Texas, the old iron horse oil pumper works tirelessly all day and into the night. This was lit using a diffused flashlight from various angles to really subdue the light and let the colors and stars shine through.

Life On Mars
This was the reward for hiking nearly 5 miles down a horrible dry river bed to the Wahweap Hoodoos. The Hoodoos are lit in the background and there is another shot in this gallery of the hoodoos closeup, but I really like the scene from standing back aways too. This place felt like it was [...]

Leaning Tower of Britten
This is a landmark that I’ve wanted to shoot for awhile. I actually made it through the area one night and failed to locate it. I was pretty upset for not being able to find it and felt that I just had to make it a mission to find and shoot. Believe it or not, [...]

Arches at Dusk
This was one of my favorite (and rare) daytime shots while at Arches National Park. This was right as the sun was going down and the glow was just unbelievable. This place is just perfection, it’s so beautiful – it’s like everything was placed there by hand.

High Five
The interchange of the I635 and I75 is often referred to as the “High Five”. The interchange comprises 37 bridges distributed across 5 levels (thus the name “High Five”), with the highest ramps 120 feet above ground. This was shot at about 10 p.m. at night and there was still plenty of traffic to capture here. In [...]

Clarendon Nights
There’s not much night life in the small town of Clarendon but nature sure puts on a show above the town.

Tree Mirror
This was a shot I sort of took by accident. I’d arrived at this lake with the intention of doing some night time light painting work and particularly some work with spinning, lit steel wool. Because of the fire hazard and the extremely dry conditions that idea was scrapped. I shot some sunset shots and [...]

Serial Killer
An abandoned farm house along a dusty highway at night. That doesn’t sound too creepy, but this house was. This was shot at about 9 p.m. and it was very dark as I was exploring for the right spot to shoot from. Red ants in the dark can be brutal.
