Habanero Moon
As the day ended and the evening began, Venus dances with the Moon on a canvas of pastel colors. One of my favorite shots from my trip to Kansas.

Hubbard Creek
Sunset over Hubbard Creek Lake.

Monarch at Twilight
I was just finishing shooting a lovely sunset when I noticed that a Monarch butterfly had landed on a plant next to me. I sat and watched it for a moment and realized, “Hey! Get your camera stupid!”. I quickly worked to position my tripod and get a shot. The first shot I got was [...]

Breckenridge
I normally try and plan and prepare for my shots well ahead of time, but yet I still find myself running around like a madman when sunset arrives. I often wait until the last minute to make a change in plans and then run/drive like crazy to get myself into a new spot for the [...]

Sunflower Field of Dreams
This field of sunflowers made for a striking foreground in front of a beautiful setting sun. I used a bit of fill light in conjunction a hand-held technique to block the upper portion of the frame and thus act like an in-camera HDR effect.

Setting Pod
As the sun was setting and my target object (the train trestle) was getting darker and darker, I noticed these cool water lillies with budding pods poking up out of the water. I used a bit of fill flash here to make it stand out against the ambient background light.

Stick in the mud
Just loved the colors and the quality of the light as the sun dropped below the horizon. Shot at ƒ1.2 which is a bit tough to nail focus, but I got lucky here.

Luminary Breeze
In Texas, these types of windmills are everywhere. However, on route to another location for the sunset, I stumbled on this one which had beautiful light accenting it’s silhouette against the horizon. I pulled over and shot this handheld.

Ray Hubbard
Sunset shot over lake Ray Hubbard. This is a single exposure shot, handheld.. that was pushed a bit to bring back the dynamic range a bit.

Train kept a rollin’
Nearly two hours of waiting was rewarded with not only a nice sunset, but I also was lucky to catch the last evening train as it crossed the Bay of St. Louis.
