The ghost of a long ago gold miner wanders the shafts of it’s former glory. Phantom Canyon sits high up on the Continental Divide in central Colorado. This was a photo made by me using an old lantern and slowing walking towards the open camera.
This very old mine and accompanying support structure has seen better days. I’m not sure how much longer this thing will be standing, but it’s beauty (and treachery) is evident most at night.
One of the old smelters stands tall with the classic head frame visible in the distance. This is one of the coolest and most-intact mining ghost towns in all of New Mexico.
Remnants of America’s greatest gold mines, sit high in the Rocky Mountains. It’s amazing at how well preserved these sites are. Abandoned things in the mountains tend to be much more intact than things in other areas, especially Texas and New Mexico.
