It was mostly a pretty dreary day at Arches. I hung out and explored around a bit when right after sunset (or the lack of) the skies parted briefly, and then down came a bolt of lightning.
Balanced Rock in Arches NP sits quietly as light pollution from nearby Moab creates an eerie silhouette over the surrounding elements.
Clouds rush over the basin at the entrance to Arches NP. This was a very long exposure (much longer than my normal ones) and it really helped to accentuate the movement and speed.
Clouds illuminated by nearby Moab, race by the top of Arches NP entrance and Park Avenue. When these clouds originally came rolling in, I admit I was a bit perturbed, but in the end, the clouds ended up bouncing the light pollution from Moab all around and created a very eery and unusual scene.
This was shot in Arches National Park and this was just south of the Southern Window. I notices that the Milky Way was peaking through the fast moving clouds. I then stumbled on this gnarly old tree which made for a good anchoring element to the shot.
