Broken Dreams on Route 66
This is an abandoned motor lodge right on the old section of Route 66 near the Oklahoma/Texas border. This used to be quite the roadside attraction back in the day but now it sits as yet another ghostly reminder of the demise of the original Route 66 as the new Interstate 40 slowly replaced it.

Sunflower Field of Dreams
This field of sunflowers made for a striking foreground in front of a beautiful setting sun. I used a bit of fill light in conjunction a hand-held technique to block the upper portion of the frame and thus act like an in-camera HDR effect.

Turret At Night
Most of the night I was battling thick cloud cover but after about 3a.m., the clouds finally broke down a bit and made for some interesting compositions as seen here over Turret Arch. I lit this with a gelled, and gridded speedlight.

Wahweap Hoodoos Under The Milky Way
After hiking nearly 5 miles down a semi-dry riverbed in the middle of the night, I finally emerged onto a scene that looked like it was from another planet. The Wahweap Hoodoos are just such a unique backdrop to the beautiful skies here.

Plymouth
Abandoned in a field in rural North Texas, this Plymouth sits quietly awaiting for a day when it might roam the highways again. Unfortunately, with the harsh conditions in this area, it’s only a matter of time until this beauty disappears forever.

Turkey Tower
The water tower in Turkey was not my main target originally, as I’d intended to shoot a nearby gas station instead. However, after finding the gas station covered in horrible sodium vapor lights, and essentially ruined – I left rather disgusted but then I was pleasantly surprised to the see this old water tower which [...]

Studhorse Point
This was such a unique place with fascinating hoodoos all over the place. Overlooking Lake Powell in the distance, these hoodoos stand tall in the night, accented by colored glow sticks and the faint glow of Page, Arizona in the background.

Spin The Night
As many of you know, I have a thing for old windmills. I found this one by accident along a dark stretch of open road in the middle of Texas. I’d pulled over to use the err.. restroom, when I noticed this eery sounds coming from the other side of the road. As I approached, [...]

Night Horse
A familiar site in Texas, the old iron horse oil pumper works tirelessly all day and into the night. This was lit using a diffused flashlight from various angles to really subdue the light and let the colors and stars shine through.

Moonshine Smugglers
Found this old International rusting away outside the small ghost town of Melvin, TX. I lit had a really hard time shooting this the way I wanted because of the lighting conditions and the position of the truck. I ended up using a combination of diffused lighting and reflected lighting by shining a flashlight into [...]
